Lovely Laver News

What a busy and brilliant week we have had! From "growing our code" in Phonics to welcoming new friends in RE, the children have been working incredibly hard. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:

Phonics: Growing the Code!

We are becoming master readers! This week, we focused on alternative graphemes. We’ve been exploring how one sound (phoneme) can be written in many different ways (graphemes).

English: Stella and the Seagull

We dived into our new class text, Stella and the Seagull. To really understand the story, we tried "hot seating." Some of us sat in the "hot seat" as Stella or the Seagull, while the rest of the class asked questions to find out how they felt during their big adventures. We are becoming great at showing empathy!

Maths: The Power of 20

In Maths, we’ve been mastering the number 20. The children have been using base-ten blocks and tens frames to visualise this "big" number.

Isaac said 'We know that 2 tens is 20!'.

Learning Means the World

We’ve had two very special visitors this week (in spirit!):

  • With Yogi: We talked about what it means to be a good friend. We shared ideas about kindness, sharing, and listening.

  • With Newton: We turned into little scientists! We’ve been investigating materials (like wood, plastic, and metal) and describing their properties—is it shiny, dull, rough, or smooth?

Theo found lots of objects in our classroom made from different materials. He explored a rekenrek and found out it was made of wood, plastic and metal!

RE: A Special Welcome

We’ve been learning about Christenings. We explored the different steps of a Christian welcoming ceremony, including the use of water and the sign of the cross. To finish the week, we even acted out our own ceremony to see how it felt to be part of such a special day!

A brilliant thank you to all that have engaged with NumBots at home. The children have been super excited to share what badges they have recieved!
