Lovely Laver News!

What a fantastic week of discovery we've had in Year 1! From protecting our oceans to scientific experiments. Here is a round-up of what we’ve been up to!
In English we have been reading "Stella and the Seagull" and discussing the importance of our environment. We looked at how the community worked together to keep the seagulls safe and healthy. It inspired us to think about how we can look after our own local area! Ida said 'We can make things out of rubbish!'. Theodora said 'We can pick up litter and put it in the bin'.
This week, we focused on number lines to 20. We used these to help us jump forward and backward to find one more and one less. It’s a great way to see how numbers grow and shrink! We have also been having lots of fun on Numbots! We have enjoyed earning badges and moving up the levels.

In Learning Means the World we have been working with Newton, we became young scientists! We tested different materials to see if we could change their shapes. We asked:
-
Can we squeeze it?
-
Can we bend it?
-
Can we twist it?

In RE, we explored the Muslim welcoming ceremony called Aqiqah. To help us remember the special steps and traditions, we acted out the ceremony in class. It was a wonderful way to learn how families celebrate a new baby. Edward said 'They shave off the baby's hair and give the same amount in money to a charity'.

Put on your dancing shoes! We have officially started practising our routines for the Sporting Influence Dance Festival. We are working hard on our moves and can’t wait to show them off.
