Lovely Laver News

What a week of discovery we’ve had! From purple vegetables to deep reflections on Easter, the children have been working incredibly hard. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
📖 English: Bonkers about Beetroot!
We have dived head-first into the wonderful world of Bonkers about Beetroot. To help us remember the sequence of the story, we created a story map.
➕ Maths: Mastering Addition
This week, we moved our addition skills up a gear by focusing on counting on within 20. Instead of starting from zero, we practiced starting with the biggest number and "jumping" forward. We used three different tools to help us visualize the math:
-
Number Lines: Jumping along the path to find our total.
-
Counters: Physically moving items to see the group grow.
-
Tens Frames: Seeing how numbers "fill up" a ten before moving into the next frame.
🕊️ RE: Why Does Easter Matter?
We began our new unit by exploring two very big words: Incarnation and Salvation. We looked at how Christians use symbols to represent these ideas.
-
Incarnation: God coming to earth as Jesus (often symbolised by a manger or a star).
-
Salvation: The idea of being saved or rescued (often symbolised by the cross)
Phonics
In Phonics, we’ve been "detectives" looking for different ways to spell sounds we already know. This week’s focus sounds were:
-
y making the /igh/ sound (like in fly or sky)
-
ow making the /oa/ sound (like in snow or glow)
-
g making the /j/ sound (like in giant or gem)
We have really enjoyed playing out in the sunshine, feeling the spring air.
Ms Needham taught us how to paint flowers using concentric circles in art on Tuesday.
