Lovely Laver News

What a fantastic week of learning, here is what we have been up to:

🔢 Marvellous Maths

We’ve been tackling addition up to 20 this week. To help us solve these problems, we used our knowledge of number bonds. The children did a brilliant job using "tens and ones" to visualise the numbers and find the totals.

🗣️ Phonics Fun

Our brains have been busy with new sounds! We explored:

  • Alternative /l/ sounds: 'le' (like in apple) and 'al' (like in metal).

  • Soft 'c': Learning that 'c' can make a /s/ sound (like in city).

  • The /v/ sound: Practising 've' (like in give).

⛪ RE: The Easter Story

As we look toward Easter, we’ve been discussing the deeper meanings within the story. We introduced two very important key terms:

  1. Incarnation: Understanding God coming to earth.

  2. Salvation: Learning about the message of hope and being saved

☀️ Learning Means the World: Staying Sun Safe

With the sun starting to peek through, we practised being Sun Safe. We discussed how to protect our bodies—from wearing hats and sunglasses to the importance of "slip, slap, slop" with sun cream!

📚 World Book Day

We had an incredible World Book Day!

  • Dress Up: It was so much fun seeing everyone in their costumes and hearing the reasons behind their character choices.

  • Reading Buddies: We had a very special visit from our Year 6 friends, who spent time reading stories to us. It was lovely to see the whole school sharing a love for books!

  • Class library: we spent the afternoon giving our class library a refresh. All the children made a fish just like Tiddler and were wow'ed to see them swimming in the sea!
