Bland Close Farm Visit!

Farmer Grace and Farmer Dannie welcomed our class to Bland Close Farm for an absolutely wonderful day! The children were fascinated by the vibrant sights, sounds and smells of a real working farm, which really helped them truly appreciate the connection between the farm animals and the food on their plates. This trip complemented our Science learning this half-term, focusing on different types of offspring and how mammals raise their young. It was also fascinating to see the cyclical nature of farming, for example, how cow's waste is used as fertiliser to then grow the crops they eat.

Highlights for the children included seeing a wild barn owl swooping across a field, holding some very young chicks, feeding bread to Gary the boar, and bottle-feeding lambs. They also enjoyed gently enticing the shy alpacas with food, and interacting with the considerably less shy sheep and cows!

The trip was given a rating of '10,000' by the class! As Nola enthusiastically declared, it was 'the best day of her life!'
