Ribble's Class Blog
Welcome back to Ribble's Class Blog.
Sadly, our fractions topic in maths is coming to an end, and we are very proud of the work we have been doing. We are now bustling with new knowledge. For example, we have been comparing fractions, adding and subtraction fractions, adding mixed numbers, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers with multiple steps and converting fractions to equivalent denominators. We have seen a lot of perseverance in Ribble as these topics have been covered.
Our spelling focus of the week has been ‘hyphens’. Freddie is particularly enjoying this as he is the hyphen king of Ribble.
In English, we have recently been introduced to a new book called Beowulf, which is set in Anglo-Saxon England. At the start of the topic, we joined Wensley (the other year 5 class) to talk through the bare bones of the story. It seems very interesting, and we are intrigued by the plot so far.
In Learning Means the World, as we have also started a new topic, we have been discovering information about Walter Tull, who was a mixed race man. In his life, he had to overcome many difficult, shocking obstacles which showed he was very resilient and determined.
In PE we have started a new topic of handball. We have started by practising our throwing and catching and Ribble are excited to learn new skills this half term with Mr V.
Tune in next week to see what else we have been getting up to in Ribble!
