Early Years

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides children with the best possible start to school life, laying strong foundations for future learning by balancing play-based discovery with targeted, adult-led teaching. Guided by our school vision—‘Loved by God and one another, Holy Trinity is a welcoming community of faith, where we learn and flourish together. Each day opens up horizons of hope, aspiration and joy!’—we ensure every child develops socially, spiritually, physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

We celebrate each pupil as an individual, building on their unique starting points through rich experiences and close partnerships with parents and carers. Across Nursery and Reception, children freely explore vibrant indoor and outdoor environments to test skills and follow their interests, supported by staff who actively extend their learning.

  • Nursery: Focuses heavily on play-based learning alongside short, focused sessions for stories, language development, basic phonics, and maths.

  • Reception: Combines child-initiated play with adult-directed instruction in Phonics, Maths, English, and Learning Means the World.

Below, you will find our curriculum intent, annual curriculum map, and featured storybooks, as well as information on our early phonics approach (developed through the Little Wandle programme).
