Physical Education
Statement of Intent
Our Physical Education curriculum inspires, engages, and enthuses every child to build physical literacy, foster a lifelong love for movement, and lead healthy, active lives. Our provision is passionately designed to ensure every pupil receives the highest quality opportunities to develop their physical confidence, teamwork, and overall well-being.
Pupils participate in two timetabled PE lessons each week, ensuring a balanced and progressive experience across games, dance, gymnastics, and athletics. Swimming and essential water safety are taught in Year 3, with targeted top-up lessons provided in Year 6 to ensure all pupils achieve water competence. Learning is carefully mapped so skills and knowledge build sequentially over time. At the end of each unit, children showcase their progress, whether through collaborative group presentations in dance and gymnastics or by demonstrating tactical understanding and sportsmanship in competitive games.
Our curriculum extends far beyond basic physical skill. Through dedicated health and fitness units, pupils learn the direct impact of nutrition and exercise on their bodies, reinforcing key concepts from their Science and PSHE lessons. Recognising the deep connection between physical activity and mental health, we work closely with our Mental Health First Aid team and Thrive Practitioners to nurture emotional resilience, social development, and self-regulation. Furthermore, the entire school community stays active together through the Trinity Trot, giving pupils and staff a regular opportunity to boost their daily stamina and well-being.
To enrich the core curriculum, we partner with external PE agencies to deliver specialist weekly coaching and expose children to a wider variety of sports. We actively seek out opportunities for wide participation, encouraging pupils to try new activities for pure enjoyment while also offering rich competitive experiences. Throughout the year, children represent Trinity in local interschool events, fostering pride, sportsmanship, and a lasting passion for sport.
