Curriculum Information

Please see below for what we will learning about during Autumn 2:

English: We are reading the books ‘People Who Help Us' by John Wood; ‘Wow said Owl’ by Tim Hopgood, ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy and ‘The Gingerbread Man’ by Mairi Mackinnon. We will be thinking about people who help us, the colours in the natural world, space and recipes. We will be developing our skills to retell stories, create story maps, develop attributing meaning to our marks, write simple CVC words and start creating captions for images.

Maths: We will be developing our understanding of counting, composition, ordinality and cardinality up to 5. We will be looking at how whole numbers can be split into parts and looking at the language on more and fewer in comparison. We will also be exploring shapes.

Understanding the World: We are looking at ‘Night and Day,’ and ‘What’s Changed?’ We will be exploring the day night cycle, nocturnal animals and what sunrise and sunset mean! We will also be experimenting with materials which change properties, specifically looking at melting and freezing. We will be exploring the outdoor environment and focusing on exploring the season of autumn and the transition to winter.

Geography: During ‘Outdoor Adventures’ we will be exploring the natural world through our senses and understand the effect of the changing seasons.

RE: We will be exploring why Christians perform a Nativity at Christmas. We will find out about the Nativity story, who is in the Nativity, and that Christians believe that Jesus is God in human form.

Music: We will be learning about the music from a range of cultural and religious celebrations, including Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwankzaa and Christmas.

PSHE: Celebrating Differences – We will be thinking about what makes us special, our homes, how to be a kind friend, and how to stand up for ourselves when someone says or does something unkind. We will continue to develop our understanding of our classroom rules.

PE: Manipulation and coordination and Dance – We will be learning to organise and match items, images, colours and symbols. Pupils will also develop working with a partner to listen and share ideas and questions. We will also be exploring how we can move our bodies and develop our coordination.

Additionally, you may find the information on the learnersfrombirth website supportive. It has a wonderful selection of guidance on potty training, toothbrushing routines, what to expect when starting school (both nursery and reception) and general child development support. We have some of their materials in print form. If you would like copies, please see the office, and they would be happy to share these with you.

Home school communication, both to celebrate the good things and tackle any problems or concerns, is essential in ensuring the very best education for your child. Parents, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher via admin@htceschools.co.uk

As part of our whole school commitment to wellbeing, there is no expectation on our staff to read or answer emails sent between 6pm and 8am in the week, or any at weekends or holidays.  Should your email not receive a reply, this is not a case of being impolite but one of choosing wellbeing ahead of workload.
