Curriculum Information
Please see below for what we will learning about during Autumn 2:
English: We are reading Blue John by Berlie Doherty to create our own narratives that include detailed setting, characters, and plot. We will focus on using a range of verbs, alliteration, and correctly punctuated speech. We are also going to look at the non-fiction book, Great Women who Changed the World and will write a biography on a famous person.
Maths: We are continuing our work on subtraction with exchanges before moving on to Area. Children will encounter ‘area’ for the first time, learning that it is the amount of space taken up by a two-dimensional shape or surface. Through practical activities, such as counting squares using classroom objects, they will explore different ways of measuring area, discussing why certain tools (like standard square pieces of paper) are more effective than others (like counters, which leave gaps).
Guided Reading: We will be exploring poetry in our Guided Reading lessons, discussing how authors convey meaning through their stanzas.
Computing: Exploring the Internet – We will investigate the purpose of the internet, evaluate how trustworthy online information is, and apply our learning by creating our own digital content in the form of a blog, vlog, or podcast.
Art: We will be continuing to explore Tone, Texture and Proportion through using 3D effects and how to use tone and texture in drawings.
Geography: Rainforests & Local Woodlands – We will explore where tropical rainforests are located around the world, what life is like in the Amazon rainforest, and who lives there. We will also examine how rainforests are changing and compare them by looking at how our local woodland is used.
PE: Hockey and Dance
PSHE: We are exploring our topic ‘Celebrating Differences’.
RE: Sikhism – We will answer the big question: “What does it mean to be a Sikh in Britain today?”
Science: States of Matter (Chemistry) – We are learning about solids, liquids, and gases, as well as materials that are trickier to categorise. Children will investigate state changes, including how temperature affects the speed of ice melting and water evaporating, the process of condensation, and the stages of the water cycle.
French: Adjectives of Colour, Size, and Shape – We will learn to describe objects using French adjectives for colour, size, and shape, building on our speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills.
In addition to all of this, we will be rehearsing for our Christmas production!
Home school communication, both to celebrate the good things and tackle any problems or concerns, is essential in ensuring the very best education for your child. Parents, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher via admin@htceschools.co.uk
As part of our whole school commitment to wellbeing, there is no expectation on our staff to read or answer emails sent between 6pm and 8am in the week, or any at weekends or holidays. Should your email not receive a reply, this is not a case of being impolite but one of choosing wellbeing ahead of workload.
